We have many pictures from Grandview, WA because we were there for a week and just because the town was so interesting to us. The stores and churches that we found in the town square were 97% Hispanic. We enjoyed some good Mexican food for lunch and loved the potion sizes. The schools are 95% Hispanic although still taught in English. Some of the kids are third generation so English is spoken most of the time. Basically we saw this as a place of hard working Hispanics living pretty much their own culture in the safety of the USA, but far away from family and a place where you can get free refills :) I loved this town and walked almost everywhere the roads would take me.
Grandview, WA is a small community with a lot to offer. There are vineyards that produce wine and also juice. I love to walk and found a couple of good trails. While I was walking I could smell the sweet smell of Welch's grape juice!
We have been in the States for almost two months and I started missing the mountains but God gave me a mountain! Grandview, WA
While we were in the Nampa ID area we caught up with friends Paul and Kim Ellis. They are friends from our church before we left for Venezuela. He was the music minister of Nall Ave. Prairie Village, KS and now sings with the Liberty Quartet. We just learned from someone else that Paul and Kim were instrumental in helping us start out on our journey.
The teens of the church were having a garage sale and they decided to sell their car and to give the sale of the car to help us. So they put a ridiculous high price on the car and it sold! They kept their promise to God and donated all the money to us in a love offering! They shared that it was the beginning of their faith walk with the Lord. What a big sacrifice! Praise the Lord for friends who listen to God!! Blessings Paul and Kim. The ice cream was delicious! And Paul sings one of Jon's favorite songs. Left to right: Lori Dayton Green whose brother Craig also served as a volunteer who left with his family last month to be volunteer teachers in Ecuador. Josh Kinney who runs a faith based company. Angela Bynum Church who was a MK from Boliva. They all live with their families in Nampa, ID area.
Our hearts were so full to be able to connect with former Volunteers that gave of their time nearly 20 years ago. We really can't take the credit for these volunteers since we were still serving as Volunteers under Craig and Gail Zickefoose our mentor missionaries while working teams with them. There are so many more that are not pictured here. It was good to share with their church one night at Eagle, ID and talk about the good memories of beautiful Venezuela which needs so much prayer today. Praise the Lord for these young adults who are married and have families and still have a deep walk with the Lord and serving Him in their churches. These are the names that you hear for when you return to you passport country to share the stories about your ministry. The terms, "Furlough and Deputation" are the older terms that the church of the Nazarene adopted. The more recent one, "Home Assignment", is the term we have adopted. We started our HA '15 in July and will complete it Nov. 3. It sounds like a long time but we are adding our vacation with the kids.
